Casala products are designed for a long lifespan; our designs are timeless and of high quality. A product with a long lifespan is a basic prerequisite for the Circular Economy.

Our product development is focused on easy disassembly and separation of materials and minimising the use of raw materials. By intelligent positioning of reinforcements in plastic and aluminium cast parts, these can be made thinner.

Production

Casala furniture is produced in the Netherlands under good working conditions and by well-trained employees who have a secure livelihood. Obviously, we operate within the Dutch environmental standards, but we do much more to make our production more sustainable. We purchase renewable energy, generate energy from our own pressed pellets from our sawing waste, and use environmentally friendly production techniques such as laser cutting steel and computer-controlled dust cutting machines. This minimises the use of raw materials, the production of waste, CO2 emissions and energy consumption.

Raw materials and semi-finished products are purchased locally as much as possible; mostly, within Western Europe and always from a guaranteed responsible sources. The FSC® (FSC-C140130) and PEFC certification of our wooden components and the cooperation with ‘Der Grüne Punkt’ in the area of plastics also guarantees this independently. The selection of suppliers who work with Casala takes careful consideration. The degree of sustainability, supported by certificates in accordance with FSC® or PEFC and ISO14001, is an important part of this process.

Residual materials are avoided as much as possible during production by very specific purchasing and by applying production methods that are optimised in terms of material technology. Residual materials from production are collected separately, collected by local partners and processed into new raw materials. Where possible, residual streams are returned directly to the supplier to make new parts. For example, cutting off waste steel, worn or broken leg caps from chairs and tables, plastic seats and backrests, they are used again to make new products.

Casala furniture stands for ‘Design linked to functionality’. In this way, we emphasise that our furniture is designed for long-term use and always has added functional value.

A long lifespan and rewarding use are the best conditions to prevent a product from being discarded and reduced to waste within a few years. In this way, we ensure that no raw materials are lost from the chain and we prevent the pile of waste in our society from continuing to grow.

Casala furniture is “designed for disassembly”. In our production, we can optimally refurbish products and make them suitable for a second life. We do this with Casala products, but also with other furniture. For example, we offer tables and chairs that can be re-used via ReFurniture.

Do you have used Casala furniture? For all furniture produced by Casala, we guarantee take back and processing into new products. That also applies to >15-year-old furniture.

Recycling

There will come a time when Casala furniture will no longer be eligible for re-use. At that time, our products can be disassembled and the parts are almost 100% recyclable.

Curvy Circular Family

The Curvy Family programme has a recycled alternative, where the plastic seats and backs are made from 100% recycled material. The new components are made from plastic household waste and available in 4 colours; Ocean Blue, Forest Green, Stone Grey & Lava Black. And they are also 100% high-quality recyclable!

This production method makes a fundamental contribution to the environment. By recycling plastic, a closed loop is created and the environmental impact is reduced:

• Plastic can be produced without the use of crude oil.
• Energy consumption is significantly lower than for the production of new plastics.
• CO2 emission values and other polluting emissions are much lower.
• We help reduce the pile of plastic waste.
• Until recently, only down-cyclable waste was up-cycled into a premium product.
